Support levels for asylum seekers on S95 for 2011-12 have been announced. In summary the new rates are:

Qualifying Couple: £72.52

Lone parents aged 18 or over: £43.94

Single person aged 18 or over: £36.62

Person aged at least 16, but under 18: £39.80

Person aged under 16: £52.96

The increase in payments is about 3.1% and in line with the increase in payments to those on Income Support. However, it still means that the vast majority of asylum seekers are having to live on less than 70% of Income support. The new payments will come into force on 18 April 2011 (Section 4 rates are still under consideration and likely to be decided next week).
